The Evolution of Fancy on the Farm

Fancy on the Farm didn’t begin on a sprawling ranch. It started in a small, HOA-controlled home, where I built a garden—my therapy, my retreat, my way of healing. I didn’t set out to break any rules; in fact, I did everything right. I submitted my plans, went through the approval process, and had an approved design request in hand.

But that approval didn’t matter when the HOA decided to change its mind. They shifted their position after the fact, turning my peaceful escape into a legal nightmare. The harassment started. Cease and desist letters. Petty enforcement. A fight over something they had already agreed to. I stood my ground, but in the end, I realized the only way to truly protect what mattered to me was to walk away.

124 days ago, I closed on a 1942 ranch-style property—a dream I never thought possible, a place where no one can tell me what to plant, how to live, or what to build. Fancy on the Farm isn’t just about a farm; it’s about freedom. It’s about reclaiming peace, creating without interference, and living life on my own terms.

Hey there! I'm Sarah, the girl behind Fancy Farm. My journey to this beautiful, messy, and delightfully fancy life has been anything but ordinary.

Raised in poverty by an incredibly resilient single mom with three kids, I learned early on how to make life feel special with very little. My idea of "fancy" didn't come from designer labels or extravagant lifestyles—it was about creating beauty from simplicity, turning mud into magic, and finding joy in the everyday. Picture a little girl playing outside in her pink tutu and cowgirl boots, splashing through mud puddles. That's me in a nutshell.

I'm also a proud U.S. Navy veteran and one of the few women pilots—part of the 8.39% breaking barriers in aviation. My military service and aviation career taught me discipline, precision, and grit—qualities I bring into every project I tackle on the farm.

At Fancy Farm, I blend my love for gardening, homesteading, and sustainable living with my lifelong passion for DIY, baking, health, wellness, and practical beauty. Having lost and maintained a 150-pound weight loss for over a decade, I'm committed to sharing real, sustainable health tips that actually work.
